An event to celebrate nature and explore Renfrew County's natural history through displays, talks by expert guest speakers, a fun children's program, and guided local field trips.

8:30 Check-in, get comfortable and view displays

9:00 Welcome - Introductory remarks by Master of Ceremonies, Mark Stabb

9:05 Natural History Day Memories: A glimpse back in time from our 10th – Daryl Coulson 10 min

9:15 Reptile and Amphibian Atlas and Ontario Nature Programs - Laura Robson 30 min

9:45 Break for Refreshments; at this time a children's program will move outside, and allow children a chance to explore nature with expert adult leadership – Chris Hinsperger 

10:00 The Birds of Ottawa: biodiversity in a big city-Adam Smith 40min

10:40 ‘Further on, in the woods down there, they’ve got no names’: unrecognised biodiversity under your feet! - Alex Smith 40 min

11:20 Nature Conservancy of Canada Ottawa Valley Projects 30min - Caroline Gagné and Ève Desmarais

12:05 Lunch and Networking: A chance to meet with old friends and make new friends over the lunch hour. Also an opportunity to view the displays.

1:00 Field Trips - To experience and discover the marvels of local flora and fauna on a guided forest walk at Shaw’s Woods and/or tour of Ottawa Valley Native Plant Botanical Garden, Connaught Nursery & Gardens, Micksburg. Please bring appropriate outdoor attire.

Adjourn at the end of field trips Bon voyage and safe driving!

Renfrew County Natural History Day 2012 is organized in partnership by Pembroke Area Field Naturalists, Macnamara Field Naturalists’ Club, Renfrew County Stewardship Council, and Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources-Pembroke District; with support from Four Seasons Conservancy, Upper Ottawa Valley Nature Club, Bonnechere Caves, Connaught Nursery & Gardens (Micksburg), Friends of Bonnechere Provincial Park, Ontario Parks, Ontario Nature and Nature Conservancy of Canada.
